Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery Partners With NFCA Through Coupon Program

Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery is helping others in the gluten-free community give back by partnering with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) through a coupon program called Spread the Bread.

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of celiac in order to gain prompt and accurate diagnosis for those suffering, supporting the health and wellbeing of those with the disease, and facilitating research that will better understand the disorder and find a cure. Visit www.celiaccentral.org for information.

Through the Spread the Bread program, Rudi’s is proudly supporting the NFCA in educating primary care physicians focused on Celiac Disease with the goal of improving diagnosis and management of the disease. NFCA teamed up with top Celiac doctors nationwide through its Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and this program is free for physicians. For more information on the program, see www.CeliacCMECentral.com.

For every $1 off coupon downloaded for a loaf of Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bread, Rudi’s will donate $1 to support the NFCA’s CME program, up to $20,000. Coupons are available now on Rudi’s Gluten-Free’s website and Facebook page, and will remain available through February, or until the goal is reached.

“Every year, millions of people suffer unnecessarily as a result of the lack of diagnosis of celiac disease,” said Alice Bast, Founder and President of NFCA. “Our mission is to decrease the amount of time it takes for someone to get diagnosed, improve quality of life, and with the support of companies like Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery, we can better reach that goal.” Out of approximately three million people that have Celiac Disease, less than 200,000 are diagnosed. Approximately 1 in 133 people have Celiac Disease. The goal of the NFCA, per Alice Bast, is to have one million people diagnosed by 2015.

Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery has been around since 1976, starting with a line of organic bakery products. In August of 2010, Rudi’s introduced their gluten-free breads. They are natural breads using simple organic ingredients that contain no artificial ingredients, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup or trans-fat. The great part about Rudi’s breads is not only are they good for you, they taste great! No heating is necessary as it is with a lot of gluten-free breads. It is very easy to make sandwiches, grilled cheese and even French Toast with their breads. They currently come in three delicious flavors: Original, Multigrain and Cinnamon Raisin. “We created Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery so people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance can once again take pleasure in eating tasty and healthy breads,” said Doug Radi, vice president of marketing for Rudi’s Organic Bakery.

Meet Roh Doylida – The Gluten Free Consultant

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Roh Doylida, who is now a consultant about living gluten-free.

In March of 2002, right after his third birthday, Roh Doylida’s son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Her son had been very ill and could not speak. Roh was suddenly immersed into the world of living gluten-free. Like many Celiac patients face, it was both a relief to find out the diagnosis and a scary experience all at the same time. An estimated 1 in 100 people have Celiac Disease and a big percentage are undiagnosed. Roh proceeded to spend the entire next year figuring out how to help her son with this new way of eating.  From 2004 to 2009, she and a partner ran a business called Roh and Jo’s Gluten-Free Sweets. They made everything from gluten-free breads and muffins to decorated birthday and wedding cakes. They also created special holiday recipes and entire dessert tables for events like corporate parties and bar mitzvahs.

Roh is now very passionate about helping others transition into living gluten-free. This can be a very overwhelming and confusing time so Roh will help with living a somewhat “normal” life again. Roh will not only meet with people out of her home in Highland Park, IL,  but will also meet in someone’s home or even at a local grocery store.  Roh will help with how to set up a gluten-free kitchen, finding sources of hidden gluten, recipes, holiday menus and brands to consider as well. Roh will also address challenges such as isolating gluten in the kitchen, social situations, children eating at school,  how to eat while traveling and many more.

Roh will also personalize a guide for each client that she has written called “Successfully Navigating the Gluten-Free World”.

Here is what a local doctor says about Roh:

Dr. Sara Star:

“Rohanna Doylida’s guide is a lifesaver! People who are newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease (or other gluten intolerances) are often left to navigate the confusing world of gluten-free cooking and shopping alone. As a Celiac myself, and a Pediatrician, I highly recommend Rohanna’s Gluten-Free Guide.”

Udi’s brings the sandwich back!

I was in the gluten-free aisle of Woodman’s not too long ago and stumbled upon Udi’s bread. I was intrigued by the bread’s soft texture like breads I enjoyed prior to going gluten-free so I thought I would give it a whirl. All I can say is WOW!! It is the most delicious bread I have had to date…my new favorite!

Udi’s offers a Whole Grain, White and Cinnamon Raisin bread that does not need to be toasted. This is an excellent bread for making sandwiches, toast or french toast. Most gluten-free breads need to be baked or toasted to soften up a bit but not Udi’s breads, making them a great option for those who need to pack a lunch. Many people who are gluten-free have a difficult time being able to pack a sandwich for work, picnics, etc. due to the baking/toasting requirement.

I highly recommend Udi’s breads! Udi’s also makes bagels, muffins and granola and an outstanding pizza crust as well. Their products are also dairy-free, soy-free and nut-free.

Udi’s can be found in most grocery stores that carry gluten-free products. In the Chicagoland area, Udi’s products can be found at the following stores: Jewel, Whole Foods, Sunset Foods, Woodman’s, Meijer, in addition to many health-food stores.

Their website is udisglutenfree.com. They offer a $1.00 off coupon if you register for their e-mail newsletter. They also offer recipes, blog links and other very useful information for those in the gluten-free community.
