Recap of CDF National Conference and GF Expo – May 4-5, 2013

Celiac Disease Foundation Conference and Gluten Free ExpoI am very thrilled and honored to have attended the Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) National Conference and Expo in Pasadena, CA,  as an Official Blogger, the weekend of May 4-5, 2013, and would like to thank CEO, Marilyn Geller and Janelle Smith from CDF and Erica Dermer for getting all of the Official Bloggers together for this awesome event.  I am always excited to meet other members of the gluten-free community and learn more about Celiac Disease, since I myself do not have it (I am Gluten Intolerant) but a good majority of my readers do have it. It is always a good thing to get the latest information from experts in the field and sample some products I may not have tried before.

The official event began on Saturday, May 4th. It was great to meet up with my fellow Official Bloggers, which included (l to r) Sarah Stolp from Can I Eat Here, Chrissy from Glam Without Gluten,  Brian from East Bay Celiac, Kim from Gluten Free in Arizona and Advisor to Stuffed Pepper, Erica Dermer from Celiac and the Beast, Alison from A Girl Defloured, and that’s me all the way to the right. Missing from the photo was fellow Health Coach from Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Kim Rice, from Thriving GF. We really had a great group!

Official Bloggers for CDF Expo

At the conference, we heard updates and information about Celiac Disease from experts such as Dr. Peter Green and Dr. Joseph Murray. Andrea Levario, Executive Director of the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA), also gave an update on the GF Food Labeling with the FDA. Later on in the day we heard information from a Nutrition Panel, which included information from my friend Anne Lee with Schar. I was also overly excited to run into Alice Bast, Founder and President of the NFCA. So glad to finally meet her after talking to her for over 2 years (and darn, forgot to get a pic of us!!)  and cannot say enough about how much the NFCA does to spread awareness, educate and train about Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance! Happy Celiac Awareness Month! I would like to start it off by giving you a recap (in 2 parts) of the always awesome Gluten and Allergen Free Expo that took place in Chicago last month on the 20th and 21st. Thousands attended and there were over 150 vendors. SO much to report about that I’m doing it in 2 parts!

Blogger Love:

It was great hanging out with fellow bloggers (when I wasn’t busy checking out all the products!). We had an area where we all congregated and some even had some great items to sell like Erica from Celiac and the Beast. Her t-shirts and hoodies are very popular, you should check them out! Besides seeing my local GF pals, Betsy from Gluten Free Betsy and Melissa, Ms. Geekily GF aka Glutonazon (see above pic), I loved seeing Cindy from Vegetarian Mamma again and meeting Amy Leger, The Savvy Celiac, for the first time. We have known each other online for a while now. Was great meeting some other bloggers for the first time too, such as Alissa from Breaking up with Captain Crunch, Claudine from Gluten Free Green Bean, Melanie from Hope’s Kitchen, Rebecca from Pretty Little Celiac, Pam from I’m a Celiac, Connie from Daily Forage and last but not least, I had a great time hanging with Lizz from A Little Bit of This and That. We had a blast sampling products together! Hope I’m not forgetting to mention anyone, we really had a great group! Thanks again to our sponsor, Holy Crap Cereal!

My favorite GF product discovery of the Expo was:

Love this chocolate!! Here is the owner of PASCHA, Simon Lester.

Love this chocolate!! Here is the owner of PASCHA, Simon Lester.

PASCHA Organic Allergy-Free Dark Chocolate! –  I think their President and CEO, Simon, could tell I was a wee bit excited to come across this delightful discovery. My friends know how geeked I get over chocolate, this sent me over the top! Cacao is a superfood and their bars range from 55% cacao to 80% cacao. The higher the number usually means a more bitter taste but not with their bars! What I loved too was the smooth taste. What is so awesome, is that their chocolate is completely allergy free too! As someone whose food allergy list keeps growing and growing, it was so refreshing to see that their chocolate is completely free of all the allergens. Allergy free and healthier chocolate, gotta love it!!

Here are some other awesome new discoveries:

Smart Flour FoodsSampled some most yummy pizza made with their flour blend, which is made from ancient grains, teff, amaranth and sorghum. Couldn’t get enough of it!! Their breads rock too and I can’t believe I forgot to snap a pic of their yummies, most likely because their booth was very popular every time I walked by!!

Laura and Taste Guru ROCK!

Laura and Taste Guru ROCK!

Taste GuruAbsolutely love this company! They try out the products first then ship the best of the best right to your door. One of the most frustrating things about having to change to a gluten-free lifestyle is the money you have to spend sampling products until you find the ones you like best and/or have the best ingredients. Taste Guru does the job for you! I really enjoyed meeting Laura Hanley, their Marketing Guru as well. She’s a lot of fun and is aka G-Free Laura.

Loved the way their cheese melted!

Loved the way their cheese melted!

Yummy Vegan Cheese! Great for Nachos!

Yummy Vegan Cheese! Great for Nachos!

Chicago Vegan Foods Did you know that most marshmallows are not vegan because they are made with egg or gelatin, which is usually not vegetarian-friendly? Their marshmallows are vegan and are called Dandies Vegan Marshmallows. They are delicious and I like that they are made with non-GMO ingredients.  What I was most excited about was their vegan cheese. I’m mostly dairy-free, am able to eat hard cheese but I prefer to mostly not eat cheese at all because I worry about the after effects. Their cheese melts very evenly and is delicious! Loved trying their Nacho Vegan Sauce, now I can have guilt-free nachos! If you want a good vegan cheese, I highly suggest checking their product line here. Their products are sold at Whole Foods around Chicago and if you are outside the Chicago area, can also buy them online.

Great for a Bake Sale or Pot Luck!

Great for a Bake Sale or Pot Luck!

Great labels!

Great labels!

Kemnitz Family Kitchen - Gluten Free Labels - Loved seeing these labels. This makes it so easy, whether you are bringing food to a pot luck or bake sale or have a restaurant and need to designate a GF meal, this eliminates the need to find pen and paper and risk losing it somewhere and makes it easy to tell what has been prepared GF. Was such a delight meeting owner,Susan Nelson too! Please check out their product line here. I will be doing a giveaway soon so please keep a lookout for it soon!

Their breads really are Outrageous!

Their breads really are Outrageous!

Outrageous BakingAbsolutely loved sampling their breads! My favorite was their Chocolate Zucchini Bread. It was very moist and delicious and love that their breads are all gluten and dairy-free! Please check them out here.

Really tasty and SO healthy!

Really tasty and SO healthy!

Powbab - This really geeked me out. Being that I’m a Health Coach, I love anything that has to do with the superfoods and this one was really interesting. Their chews are made from Baobab, which comes from a tree in Africa, Pomegranate and Acai Berry. They are really tasty and help boost your immunity and are high in antioxidants. They give you 100% of the daily dose of vitamins C and E and are a good source of vitamin A.

Part 2 coming real soon – Updates of my favorite products/people I’ve loved to blog about…

CDF National Conference and Gluten Free Expo, May 4-5, 2013

CDF National Education Conference & Gluten-Free Expo

Wow, what a fun filled gluten-free weekend I had last weekend at the Chicago Gluten and Allergen Free Expo. Cannot wait to fill you in on all the yummy gluten-free goodies I sampled and exciting new businesses that have launched recently. Next week I get to do it again in Pasadena, CA, for the annual Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) National Conference and Gluten-Free Expo at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E. Green St.

This will be my first time attending it and I am very honored to be one of their “Official Bloggers” this year. This is also the first year that the CDF will be having a 2-day event, with a stand-alone Gluten-Free Expo open to the public on the second day, Sunday, May 5th from 10am-3pm.  In years past, the Expo was offered on the same day as the conference and only available to conference attendees. “We realized that the current demand for Gluten-Free products expands far beyond the scope of our celiac community. We have over 100 exhibitors that are eager to provide samples of their GF goodies to the masses.”, explains CDF’s Development Director, Deborah Ceizler. Ms. Ceizler reminds us “for celiacs, a gluten-free diet is not an option, but there are millions of people who choose a gluten-free diet for a multitude of reasons. This EXPO is a great way for anyone interested in, or even just curious about, gluten-free foods to try them, get credible information and network.” Continue reading

For those of you who don’t know what Celiac Disease is, it is a chronic, autoimmune disease affecting approximately 1 in 133 children and adults, with roughly 95% remaining undiagnosed. When people with Celiac Disease eat foods containing gluten (the protein found in wheat, barley and rye) an autoimmune response is triggered that causes damage to the villi, the tiny hair-like projections in the small intestine. As a result, food is not properly absorbed. Even small amounts of gluten can affect those with Celiac Disease and cause health problems. Damage can occur to the small bowel, even with no symptoms present. Left untreated, damage can become chronic and life threatening. Click here to view a list of symptoms of Celiac Disease.

Here is a great “Quick Start Guide” that explains common sources of gluten and overlooked sources as well. It also addresses labeling and cross contamination in food preparation. Please click here to view this helpful guide.

About the Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF): CDF was founded in 1990 and is a globally recognized national non-profit organization. CDF strives to promote awareness and build a supportive community for patients, families and health care professionals. CDF is actively involved in advocating for patient concerns and networking with other national and international organizations.

CDF’s Annual National Educational Conference takes place the day before the EXPO on Saturday, May 4th from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The conference provides an in-depth educational experience for physicians, nurses, researchers, advocates, volunteers, celiac disease sufferers and their support systems. Experts from the medical and nutritional communities will provide specialized information and the latest research on celiac disease and non-celiac gluten insensitivity: all geared toward facilitating a successful, practical and enjoyable gluten-free lifestyle. Keynote speakers will be Joseph A. Murray, MD, Gastroenterologist and Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, MN and Peter H.R. Green, MD, Director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University, Professor of Clinical Medicine at College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. Drs. Murray and Green will make the case to support scientific and clinical research by addressing your most compelling questions, such as: Why has the prevalence of Celiac Disease increased? How can we prevent the development of Celiac Disease? and more… Biopharmaceutical leaders will also provide an insider’s look at the latest therapies and discoveries in the treatment of Celiac Disease. Moderated by Tricia Thompson, MS, RD, “The Gluten-Free Dietitian” and Andrea Levario, Executive Director of the Celiac Disease Alliance, a panel of registered dietitians from top gluten-free companies will also address the impact of the FDA ruling on gluten-free foods.

Tickets for the Gluten-Free Expo are $15 online and $20 at the door. For more information and tickets to the EXPO and/or the conference, please visit www.celiac.org/conference.html or call Deborah Ceizler at (818) 716-1513 Ext. 103. For a list of the participating vendors and fabulous presenters at the Expo, please click here.  This is definitely a must attend event if you live in the Southern California area or in the surrounding states. Did I mention the gluten-free beer garden?

Chicago Gluten & Allergen Free Expo, April 20-21, 2013

Expo-Logo-2011-e1319142465283

Hello everyone! It’s good to be back blogging again! I’ve been mostly hanging out on my Facebook and Twitter pages and it’s about time I started writing again, as there is SO much information to be shared with you all! Let’s start with one of my favorite events of the year coming up soon….The Gluten & Allergen Free Expo is returning to Chicago, April 20-21, 2013. This year it will be held at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL. Always a fun gluten-free extravaganza, this year the GFAF Expo plans on having over 150 vendors sampling and selling products! The Expo will meet the needs of the Celiac community, those with gluten sensitivities, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and those with Autism.

I remember when I was first diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance back in 2010 and attended my first Expo, I was like a kid in a candy store (well except this time, a kid in a gluten-free candy store!). “The GFAF Expo is like a big shopping mall for people with food allergies. One of the biggest complaints is that many of the restricted diet products don’t taste good or that they are so expensive. The GFAF Expo allows everyone to taste the products before they make a purchase”, says GFAF Expo Founder and CEO, Jen Cafferty.  Continue reading

E is for Expo and it was an Exciting Extravaganza!

Recently I attended the Gluten-Free and Allergen Expo in Lisle, IL,  founded by the awesome Jen Cafferty.  I was so in awe of all the different vendors, bloggers, authors and gluten-free experts I got a chance to talk to. It really was a cornucopia of gluten-free goodiness!

Here I am with Jen Cafferty.....Jen ROCKS

The Expo ran from Friday April 29, 2011 to Sunday, May 1, 2011.  On Friday, I had the pleasure of meeting a lot of the vendors and sampling a lot of new products I hadn’t tried and visiting some of the vendors I am very familiar with and whose products I absolutely love. Continue reading

I was SO excited to meet “The Pamela” from Pamela’s Products and had a lot of fun hanging out with her too! Pamela’s Products puts out the most awesome cookies (they’re addicting!) and I sampled some of her cheesecakes. You really need to try her products!

Here are "The Pamela" and Marion from Pamela's Products

I recently posted a product review of Crunchmaster‘s crackers on Examiner.com (click here to check it out!) and really really LOVE their crackers! I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Dani and Lisa and got to have dinner with them on Friday night too when a few of us went to Maggiano’s.

Loved meeting Dani and Lisa, "The Crunchmaster Gals"!

Tried the best oats from Gluten Free Oats! It was great meeting Forest and hanging out with him too!

Forest really knows his oats!

We all know how much I LOVE Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery! It was so great meeting them and at the Expo they were handing out some awesome grilled cheese sandwiches….yummy!

Vanna White....eat your heart out!

SO glad I got the chance to meet Lee Tobin from Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakehouse. Lee was instrumental in helping with the “World’s Largest” Gluten-Free cake for the “1 in 133″ event I posted about last month.

Go Lee for helping with "1 in 133"!!

So many great bloggers attended the event too! On Saturday, after volunteering, I was fortunate enough to be included at the VIP Party with some awesome gluten-free bloggers,  authors and other fantastic gluten-free people.  A great time was had by all!

We all rock the Gluten-Free World!

I was able to attend some of the presenter’s demos on Sunday as well. Here is one of my favorites, Carol Kicinski. Carol was just on QVC recently in their inaugural Gluten-Free episode selling her new cookbook, “Simply….Gluten-free Desserts”. Carol is a professional recipe developer, food writer and America’s first gluten-free (only) TV chef. She is currently on “Daytime TV” monthly as “The Gluten-Free Cook”. She creates simple recipes that are absolutely delicious and just happen to be gluten-free. I am proud to announce that I have a copy of her cookbook that I will be giving away very soon! Please watch my Rockin’ Gluten-Free Facebook page for details. Check out Carol’s website at simplygluten-free.com

Carol makes it so simple to be gluten-free!

Stay tuned for more featured bloggers on my site during the month! They will be making some outstanding contributions and have some amazing stories to share.

I would like to close this post with bringing back my friend Lauren-Lucille aka “The Celiac Diva” with two videos she shot while at the Expo. She always knows how to put a fun spin on anything and you may recognize someone in the one of the videos ;) . Enjoy!

Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery ROCKS and so does their new recipe contest!

I can’t say enough how much I love Rudi’s gluten-free breads and the people who work there. I was fortunate enough to be invited to a dinner with them and other fellow gluten-free bloggers and authors on Thursday, April 28th at Wildfire in downtown Chicago (one of my favorite restaurants). Check out the menu!

We started off with an awesome pizza.

Next, we had salad, which was very enjoyable and then I had a Black Angus burger on their new hamburger buns! Whoa was it good! You seriously would not know you were eating a gluten-free bun! I thoroughly enjoyed it! The buns are light and fluffy and what is cool is they hold together so nice (something to think about for Sloppy Joes!) As like Rudi’s other products, they are all natural with no preservatives or chemicals and no artificial ingredients.

For dessert we had a great flourless chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream. I savored every morsel!

Here are some more pics from the event:

Here I am (left) with Gluten Free Betsy (center) and Maggie Garner from Rudi's (right)

Doug Radi, VP of Marketing for Rudi's (left), Maggie Garner, Alexandra (friend of Gluten Free Betsy - 3rd from left), Gluten Free Betsy, Myself and Alexandra from Rudi's (far right)

In addition to their new hamburger buns, Rudi’s has rolled out their new hot dog buns and pizza crusts as well. Hope to share a full review on those soon (I’m sure they rock just like all their other products do!).

For Celiac Awareness Month, Rudi’s has rolled out a fantastic recipe contest called the Unbelievably Good Recipe Contest. They are accepting entries from now until May 20, 2011. Entries will be submitted on Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery Facebook page in the Recipe Contest tab. I spoke with Maggie Garner, Rudi’s Digital Marketing Manager, last week and she is very excited to have the Gluten-Free community show off their best recipes. “There is a great need for recipes and this is a way to make it more fun”, Maggie said.

Here’s how it works:

1. The recipe must be gluten-free.

2. The recipe must contain one product from the Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery line. (Original, Multigrain and Cinnamon Raisin Breads, Multigrain Hamburger Buns and Hot Dog Rolls, and Original Pizza Crusts).

The top 10 fan favorites, determined by the number of Facebook votes, will receive a $250 gift card to Williams-Sonoma, Rudi’s “Swag Bag” containing three product samples of Rudi’s Bakery Gluten-Free products, a t-shirt, magnets, coupons, a lunchbox, and a sandwich box with an approximate retail value (“ARV”) of $280 and each First Round winner’s recipe will be featured on Rudi’s Bakery’s gluten-free recipe website. You will then have a chance for your recipe to be chosen as a top three finalist. According to Maggie Garner, the recipes will be rated on: taste appeal, visual appeal, the recipe itself and the gluten-free story.

From the top 10 fan favorites, three finalists will be determined by a panel of judges including:

· Chef Jeffrey Barbour, Restaurant 4580

· Martin Hammer, owner of Restaurant 4580

· Chef Dan Kohler from Renegade Kitchen and Alternative Appetites

· Jane Miller, CEO of Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery

The top three finalists will receive a trip for two to Boulder, Colo., home of Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery, where they will compete in the Final Recipe Cook-Off at Restaurant 4580 on June 24, 2011. The grand prize winner will star in a National Foundation for Celiac Awareness – Alternative Appetites cooking show with Chef Dan Kohler of Renegade Kitchen and be featured in a national media advertisement for Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery. For complete contest and prize details, visit the Rudi’s Gluten-Free Facebook page and click on the Recipe Contest tab.

Gluten-Free Labeling Summit “1 in 133″ to be held May 4, 2011…it’s a BIG Deal!

In case you have been wondering what the “1 in 133″ badge on my website has been all about….on May 4, 2011 at the Embassy Suites Convention Center in Washington D.C., there is going to be a Gluten-Free Labeling Summit called “1 in 133″ to call on the FDA to mandate gluten-free labeling. This is something that is long overdue. The event will be a V.I.P. reception, bringing together federal lawmakers, concerned members and friends of the gluten-free community and leading gluten-free food manufacturers.

On August 2, 2004, the FDA was tasked with developing and implementing standards for gluten-free labeling as part of the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA). On Jan. 1, 2006, the FALCPA act went into effect. As a result, the presence of eight allergens including dairy, eggs, fish, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts and wheat are now declared on ingredient lists. The problem with this for those of us who need to eat gluten-free is it did not also require disclosure of barley and rye, which, in addition to wheat, also contain gluten. On January 23, 2007, the FDA published a proposed rule about defining the term “gluten-free”, allowing 90 days for public comments. Now four years later from when the FDA published the proposed rule and almost seven years later from the date originally tasked to the FDA, the standards have yet to be completed and have left millions of Americans with Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance at risk of illness from contaminated food. This is inexcusable!

Approximately 1 in 133 Americans have Celiac Disease, thus how the event was named. Celiac Disease (also known as celiac sprue, coeliac disease, non-tropical sprue or gluten sensitive enteropathy), is a chronic and permanent sensitivity to the food protein gluten, found in the grains wheat, barley and rye. Developing the disease requires three things: a genetic predisposition; exposure to gluten through digestion; and a trigger to start this atypical immune system response. It can occur in people of all ages once exposed to gluten, and is the most common genetic disorder in North America and Europe, although it is found in populations all over the world. Celiac Disease is classified as an Autoimmune disease.

In addition to those that suffer from Celiac Disease are those, like myself, that suffer from Gluten Intolerance. People with Gluten Intolerance can have the same overt symptoms like those with Celiac Disease but do not rise to the level of having an autoimmune disease. There are approximately 18 million Americans that are Gluten sensitive.

The “1 in 133″ event is the brainchild of Jules Shepard, noted gluten-free author, baking expert and celiac community advocate, and John Forberger, a winning gluten-free triathlete and active blogger. How this came about, according to John Forberger, is he was sitting in the hospital for 14 days, after being contaminated by gluten, and he talked to Jules about putting this all together because it was about time someone did something to finalize this task. At first they discussed making the World’s largest gluten-free cookie but then Jules decided it would make more of a statement to bake and build the World’s tallest gluten-free (and dairy-free) cake which is now estimated to be around 12 feet tall. The companies involved in helping with the baking and building of the cake, in addition to the Embassy Suites in Washington DC, include Jules Gluten Free, Oxford Communications, Whole Foods Market, Earth Balance and Dari Free. The advocates include the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America, University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, The University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research, Living Without magazine, in addition to many others.

Ways you can help:

1. Please donate. I am proud to be included among the list of many sponsors, which also include Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery, the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, and Bakery on Main . You can be included on the list too if you donate $133. Otherwise, they suggest donating in $11.33 increments – $11.33 for each member of your family who eats gluten-free and would benefit from clear gluten-free labeling laws. Please click here to donate.  If you are on Facebook, you can also donate through Facebook causes.

2. Please sign the petition.  Please join myself and others in signing the petition to raise our voices and help make a difference! Spread the word too, we need to be heard! Please click here to sign the petition.

3. Please send a letter to the FDA. Please join me in sending off a letter to the FDA. If the FDA gets enough letters sent to them, that will grab their attention as well. The letters are already set up for you, just click here to add your name and send it off.

4. Please spread the word online by adding a badge to your website or blog. They have the HTML code already set up for you to copy and paste onto your site.  Please click here to get the code for the badge.

For more information, please visit the “1 in 133″ website at www.1in133.org.

Showing your support can make a difference! We need this to happen.  It is a BIG DEAL!

Thank you SO much for your time and consideration.

Yours truly,

Andrea

Spring is in the air and so are some big events!

Hello everyone! It was over 80 degrees here in the Chicago area last Sunday and I was loving every minute of it. Back in the 50s now but that is Chicago for you…

I feel very blessed to be devoting myself  to the Gluten-Free world on a full-time basis. I hope to be posting many more blogs in the near future and would appreciate if you could help by spreading the word about my site. Would love to add more subscribers! In addition to my Rockin’ Gluten-Free website, I also am the Chicago Gluten-Free Food Examiner for Examiner.com. I have a link to my articles here on my website and would love subscribers there too. I generally keep the articles local to Chicagoland but I do a lot of product reviews so it is still worth checking out!

April and May are shaping up to be very exciting months here in the Chicago area.  I will be attending and volunteering at the Gluten-Free andAllergen-Free Expo at the Wyndham Hotel in Lisle, IL from April 29-May 1st. This is going to be an exciting (and overwhelming I’m sure!) event with over 70 different vendors at the vendor fair as well as some top names from the gluten-free and allergen-free world. They will have 2 days of cooking classes and fun activities for kids in an allergen-free area. If you live in the Chicago area you definitely don’t want to miss this. They still have tickets available for the cooking classes but they are selling fast. Tickets for the vendor fair are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets for the cooking classes are $175 for the day. For more info please go to www.gfafexpo.com and also check out my article on Examiner.com…here is the link..

Gluten-Free and Allergen-Free Expo

The other event I am very excited about is the University of Chicago Spring Flours (yes, that is spelled right!) Annual Benefit Dinner taking place on Friday, May 6th at the Swissotel in Chicago. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $150 and this event is expected to sell out as in previous years. Many big restaurants and bakeries from the Chicago area that offer gluten-free options are expected to contribute to this wonderful event.  The list is pretty extensive but here are some on the list:  Ben Pao, Bistro 110, Bob Chinn’s Crabhouse, Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurants, DaLuciano’s, Deerfield’s Bakery, Fogo de Chao, Maggiano’s, Mity Nice Grill, Mon Ami Gabi and Cafe’ Ba Ba Reeba, Wildfire, Rose’s Wheat-Free Bakery and Sweet Ali’s Gluten-Free Bakery.  There will also be a silent and live auction and an opportunity to hear the latest about the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center’s programs and services as well as the progress on their quest toward the cure for Celiac Disease while enjoying delicious gluten-free Tiramisu provided from the wonderful DaLuciano’s (YUM!).  Should be an exciting event for sure! Gail Pierce, Event Chairperson and University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center Board member,  says that what is so wonderful about this event is “for those who have Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance, it is the one big event where we can truly enjoy a delicious meal, without any worries about it being safe. For us, it’s like being a kid in a (gluten free) candy store.”

For more details, please visit the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center’s website at http://www.celiacdisease.net/annual-benefit.  For the full scoop, please check out my article in Examiner.com. Here is the link:
